At Sekisui House’s West Village precinct in Brisbane’s West End, fibre was already in the ground and connected to homes. The community wanted more from it.
With an Open Networks/Opticomm fibre network already serving the precinct, Capti was invited to build a second, independent fibre network. This was a fibre overbuild: a new physical network into residents’ homes, giving the community a choice of infrastructure as well as internet service.
An established fibre precinct. A new brief.
West Village brought together contemporary apartments, retail and shared spaces within a carefully considered residential precinct. The ambition for connectivity was equally clear: a service that could meet residents’ expectations for work, entertainment and life at home.
Residents’ feedback at the time described concerns about value, performance and reliability. Capti’s brief was to create a compelling alternative, with its own network, symmetric service options and a team responsible for bringing the connection through to the apartment.
Building a second network, all the way home
Capti deployed a 10Gbps-capable passive optical network, or PON, with fibre carried directly into the home. The project established an independent access network alongside the existing provider’s infrastructure.
Delivering that network within an occupied precinct required work at apartment level as well as across the building. Cable routes had to reach individual homes, and installation had to turn the wider network investment into a connection residents could use.
One resident’s account described the team cabling their apartment without using the existing cable pathways—a useful insight into the care and problem-solving involved in the final metres of the build.
Upload performance with a purpose
The rollout introduced symmetric service options, with matching stated upload and download rates. For residents, that meant choosing a connection designed for sending as well as receiving: video meetings, large file transfers, cloud backups and a household of connected devices.
During the original rollout, residents described their experiences on 500Mbps/500Mbps and 1Gbps/1Gbps plans. Their feedback covered smoother streaming, video calls, gaming and the installation itself—the everyday experiences that give a network project its meaning.
In the residents’ own words
Excerpts from feedback shared during the original 2024 rollout.
“I finished Capti's "Dare to Compare" free trial allowing me to try the new internet fibre service to our apartment before making a change and was shocked at the results!”
“They have an incredibly knowledgeable team who managed to make the difficult task of cabling our apartment without using any of existing cable pathways look easy.”

Infrastructure choice for an established community
West Village demonstrates Capti’s ability to deliver a new fibre network within a precinct that already has one. The work created a second physical connection into homes and gave residents a new option for both their service and the network carrying it.
It is a significant part of Capti’s building portfolio: an independent fibre overbuild, delivered within an established residential community, with resident feedback at the centre of the story.
