At Capti, we understand that seamless, high-speed connectivity is critical for your business. To ensure the smooth installation of your new Telstra Ethernet Access (EA) service—whether it’s the Standard or Premium tier—we’ve prepared this guide to help you get your premises and IT systems ready for the transition.

1. Understanding Your Service

Capti offers Telstra Ethernet Access as part of our comprehensive connectivity solutions tailored to fit your business's needs:

  • Standard Class of Service: Reliable, high-speed internet for businesses with consistent data transfer needs.
  • Premium Class of Service: Designed for enterprises requiring low latency, high reliability, and optimal performance, ensuring your critical operations remain uninterrupted.

Capti works with Telstra Wholesale to bring these services to your location, ensuring fast deployment and excellent support.

2. Preparing Your Site for Installation

To ensure a smooth installation process, please take the following steps:

  • Technician Access: Ensure that installation contractors have physical access to your premises to install the necessary fibre and network termination units (NTUs). Make sure technicians can access the main distribution frame (MDF), NTU locations, communication rooms, and risers.
  • Power Supply: Confirm that the NTU has access to a reliable power source. A dedicated power socket is recommended to avoid accidental disconnections.
  • Rack Space: The supplied NTU occupies 1RU of rack space and requires an additional 1RU of space both above and below for adequate cooling. Please ensure this space is available for installation.
  • Health & Safety: Provide a safe working environment for our technicians. Inform us in advance of any induction requirements or safety protocols your business may have in place.

3. Service Qualification and Feasibility

Capti will handle the necessary service qualification and feasibility studies in partnership with Telstra to ensure the infrastructure at your location is ready to support the required bandwidth.

  • Service Qualification: A desktop analysis checks the availability of fibre infrastructure and assesses if your service can be delivered.
  • Feasibility Study: In complex installations, a feasibility study may be required, potentially involving a site visit to assess infrastructure needs.
  • Note: Please be aware that this process does not guarantee the availability of a connection, as that can only be determined during installation. If any extra charges arise due to blockages, special linkage fees, construction work, or delays, we will inform you as soon as possible.

4. Installation Timelines

The provisioning time for Ethernet Access varies depending on your location and the complexity of the installation. Please check with your Account Manager for the estimated connection time frame. Generally, we anticipate:

  • 9–39 working days for most standard installations, based on your site’s infrastructure.

Once your order is placed, Capti will provide a “Provisional Date Range” (PDR) to indicate when the service is expected to be delivered and activated. If any delays arise, we will notify you as soon as possible.

5. Network Infrastructure and Bandwidth Needs

  • Bandwidth: Ensure the selected bandwidth meets your business requirements. Capti offers flexible options (e.g., 100Mbps, 1Gbps), focusing on high peak information rates (PIR) and committed information rates (CIR).
  • NTU Installation: The installation contractor will install the necessary NTU to terminate the fibre connection. This equipment remains Telstra's property and is critical for service operation.

6. Customer Responsibilities

  • Ensure Power Backup: We recommend installing Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to power the NTU and other fibre-related equipment. Without a backup, your fibre connection will not function during power outages.
  • Internal Cabling: You are responsible for any additional internal cabling required beyond the NTU to your network. Ensure your IT or facilities team is prepared for the necessary connections.
  • Router:  If you have arranged a managed router from Capti, your project manager will contact you to arrange its connection.  If you are using your own router, you will need to install and configure it. Please review our Configuring BYO router for Telstra Ethernet Access article for configuration guidelines.

7. Post-Installation Testing

After installation, testing will be completed to ensure the connection meets performance and speed requirements. You will receive a notification confirming that your service is live.

8. Service Escalation and Support

We are committed to delivering high-quality service. If you encounter any issues during the provisioning or post-installation phases, our support team is here to assist you. We also have escalation processes to address delays or service difficulties.

9. Communication During Installation

We prioritize transparency and effective communication. If any issues or hurdles arise during the fibre activation process, our team will promptly inform you. Keeping you updated ensures a smoother transition and allows for timely resolutions to any concerns.

  • If your order experiences delays and you require interim internet service while waiting for activation, please speak with your account manager about any available options.
  • Additionally, if any extra charges are incurred due to blockages, special linkage charges, civil works, or delays, we will inform you as soon as possible.

10. Plan for Redundancy and High Availability

For businesses that cannot afford any downtime, Capti offers various redundancy options, including backup circuits or auto-failover solutions, to ensure your connection remains active in the event of a primary service failure.

At Capti, we aim to make your transition to high-speed fibre as seamless as possible. By following this guide, your business will be well-prepared for the installation of your Telstra Ethernet Access service, ensuring fast, reliable connectivity that supports your growth and operations.

For any further questions or support, feel free to contact your dedicated Capti account manager. We’re here to assist you every step of the way.
