When installing your business nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet equipment, it's essential to ensure that the location and setup adhere to the specific guidelines for optimal performance and safety. The key piece of equipment is the Business Network Termination Device (BNTD), which connects your premises to the nbn™ network. Here's what you need to know about where and how to install this equipment.

Ideal Location

The best place to install the BNTD is in a server or communications room. If those spaces aren't available, other suitable areas may be used if they comply with the business nbn™ Equipment Location Requirements Guide. Some locations may be prohibited, so always refer to this guide when selecting an installation area.

Installation Options

There are two primary options for installing your nbn™ equipment: Wall Mount and Rack Mount.

For wall-mounted installations:

  • The BNTD and AC Power Supply Units (PSUs) are placed inside a coated, metallic enclosure mounted to a flat, sturdy wall.
  • Ensure the wall is suitable for fixing the enclosure, following the health, safety, and environment standards.
  • The wall must meet specific size requirements, such as being no more than 1900mm from the floor to the top of the device and at least 500mm from the floor to the bottom of the device.
  • If installed inside a cupboard or cabinet, proper ventilation is required.

Ensure the equipment is not obstructed by any objects for safety and maintenance.

For rack-mounted installations:

  • The customer must provide a suitable rack that meets minimum clearance and ventilation requirements.
  • The BNTD and PSUs must be installed in dedicated spaces within the rack. For optimal cooling and performance, ensure a 1RU clearance around the equipment.
  • If using AC power, a 240V General Power Outlet (GPO) should be located within 1000mm of the equipment.

Power and Earthing Requirements

You will need:

  • A 240V AC GPO for each PSU within 1000mm.
  • For rack-mounted solutions, you may opt for a 48V DC power option with a 2A circuit breaker per PSU.

Ensure that all power and earthing requirements comply with AS/NZS3000:2018 standards.
