When using an NBN Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connecton, you may wonder how many high-speed services can be provisioned on the NTD. The NTD has four data ports (UNI-D1 to UNI-D4), but only one port can support a 1Gbps service at a time. The total downstream bandwidth across all ports is 1.3Gbps, meaning if one port is using 1Gbps, the maximum speed for a second service will be limited to 250Mbps.

Your Options:

  1. Churn Your Current Service: If you already have a 1Gbps service, you can churn it to Capti without needing to provision a second service.
  2. Reduce the Speed of Your Current Service: If you want to add 1Gbps service with Capti, downgrade your existing service to a lower speed (100Mbps or 250Mbps), freeing up the NTD’s bandwidth for the new connection.

Can You Install a Second NTD?

In some cases, NBN may allow the installation of a second NTD, but this comes with additional costs (typically around $300 for installation). This option is often requested for multi-dwelling units (MDUs) or properties with separate structures like granny flats or home offices. Each NTD would operate independently, allowing for more flexible service configurations.
