Please be aware that the login requirements for every BYO router may vary. If the instructions above do not work, or if you have set a password and cannot recall it, you can try performing a factory reset. To do this, hold down the reset button on your router for approximately 8 seconds, or until the router's lights begin to flash. This will restore the default username and password. If the issue persists, refer to your router's manual for further assistance.
Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Building (FTTB)
For FTTN and FTTB connections, you’ll use an existing telephone port in your property. A VDSL2-compatible router is required, and older VDSL1 or ADSL routers won’t work. You’ll typically find a grey or beige cable to connect from the telephone port to the DSL port on your modem. For ASUS devices, it's important to configure the modem before connecting the DSL cable. If you have issues, contact our customer service team.
Steps to configure your router:
- Connect your computer or phone to the modem/router via WiFi or Ethernet cable.
- Open your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.) and enter the IP address of your device’s settings, found on a label on your modem/router. Some common login addresses are listed above.
- Log in using the default credentials, usually “admin” for both the username and password (check the label if these don’t work).
- Find the DSL connection settings (this varies by brand). While Setup Wizards may work, manual setup is often recommended, especially for Netgear devices.
- Input the following settings for FTTN/FTTB:
- DSL Mode/Interface Type: VDSL
- Internet Connection Type: Dynamic, IPOE, or DHCP
- No VLAN ID
- Obtain IP Address Automatically
- Enable SRA (if available)
- ISP does not require a username/password (if this option is present)
- Leave other settings at their default values.
- Finalise the configuration, power off the modem/router, and wait 10 minutes before restarting.
- Test your internet connection. If you experience issues, contact our customer support team.
FTTP, Fixed Wireless, FTTC, and HFC
For other connection types (FTTP, Fixed Wireless, FTTC, and HFC), the setup is generally similar. These connections will have an NBN device installed at your location, and cable setup depends on your specific NBN service type. We have connection guides for each service type to help with hardware setup.
If you’re switching providers and using FTTP or Fixed Wireless, you may need to change which UNI-D port on your NBN box is used. We will send an email with the correct port information.
Steps to configure your router:
- Plug in all relevant cables and NBN devices. The "WAN" port on your router is where the NBN device connects.
- Connect your computer or phone to the modem/router using WiFi or Ethernet cable.
- Open your web browser and type the router’s IP address, as listed on a label on your modem/router or from the addresses provided earlier.
- Log in with the default credentials (usually “admin” for both username and password).
- Locate WAN settings (this may vary by brand). Setup Wizards may work, but manual configuration is often simpler.
- Input the following settings:
- DSL Mode/Interface Type: Ethernet WAN
- Internet Connection Type: Dynamic, IPOE, or DHCP
- No VLAN ID
- Obtain IP Address Automatically
- Operation Mode: Wireless Router Mode (if available)
- Leave other settings at their default values.
- Finalise the setup, power off the modem/router, wait 10 minutes, and turn it back on.
- Test your connection. If there are issues, contact our customer service team.
Frequently asked questions
What’s my internet username and password?
Capti does not have a username/password login for our internet connections. Gone are the username and password days of ADSL. This applies to every type of connection. There will be specific router settings that will bypass the need to enter a username/password.
Can I bring a router from another ISP?
In most cases, yes! Most modems and routers provided by different internet service providers (ISPs) are able to be used with an Capti service.
If your router is from another service provider, or an old VDSL2+ modem router, then sometimes there may be additional tweaks to establish a connection. Some ISP’s lock their routers to their service, but most do not. If you’re wanting to use another service provider’s router and aren’t able to make the changes in the guide or update the firmware, then call our Customer Service team. We may have a few tips and tricks to resetting the modem router so it can work.
