Tools to help your household stay safer online

Filtering and parental-control tools can help you manage the content available on your family's devices. You can also use privacy settings, age-appropriate app settings and regular conversations about what children do online.

Start with the Family Friendly Filter program for information about participating filtering products and how to obtain them. Follow the current program links to the product supplier, then check device compatibility, features, price and installation instructions before choosing a product.

Some controls run on an individual device; others work through a router or account. Check which devices and connections your chosen tool covers, including mobile data and devices used away from home. Keep the tool updated and review its settings as your family's needs change. No filter catches every unsuitable item.

The eSafety parents hub provides practical guidance on parental controls, games, apps and talking with children about online risks.

Problems using a filter with Capti

If a filtering product does not work with your Capti internet service, contact support@capti.com.au or call 1800 022 784. Tell us the product and version, device, service type and what happens when you try to use it. Do not include passwords or sensitive browsing material.

We will assess whether the issue relates to the Capti connection and help direct product-specific issues to the appropriate supplier. We will use the relevant industry process for compatibility concerns involving a Family Friendly Filter product. If you are unhappy with our response, use our complaints process.

Report harmful or illegal content

You can report harmful material to the website, app or platform that hosts it. You can also seek help from Australia's eSafety Commissioner, which handles specified types of serious online abuse and illegal or restricted content.

Use eSafety's reporting service to choose the correct report type and follow its instructions. Some abuse complaints require you to report to the platform first; illegal-content reports can follow a different process. The eSafety reporting guide explains the steps.

If you contact Capti about content, we will assess the report and direct it to the appropriate reporting or complaint process. Tell us the location of the material if you can safely do so. Do not download, copy or send us suspected child sexual abuse material. Follow eSafety's instructions for reporting it.

For an immediate threat to someone's safety, call 000. For help with technology being used in domestic, family or sexual violence, see our support information.
