Now that your G.Fast connection is live, it's time to set up your compatible router.  It's a simple process, and this guide will help you with essential router configuration settings.

Steps to configure your router:

  1. To get started, you’ll need a you'll need a router with a Gigabit WAN port.   
  2. Plug in all relevant cables and devices. The "WAN" port on your router is should be connected to the "Ethernet port" on the supplied NTU using a working Ethernet cable. 
  3. Connect your computer or phone to the router using WiFi or Ethernet cable.
  4. Open your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.) and enter the IP address of your device’s settings, found on a label on your router. Some common addresses are listed at the bottom of this article.
  5. Log in to the device settings from this page. The most common username is admin and most common passwords are admin or password. If these don't work, check the sticker on the back of the device for these credentials. 
  6. Locate WAN settings (this may vary by brand). Setup Wizards may work, but manual configuration is often simpler.
  7. Input the following settings:
    • DSL Mode/Interface Type: Ethernet WAN
    • Internet Connection Type: Dynamic, IPOE, or DHCP
    • No VLAN ID
    • Obtain IP Address Automatically
    • Operation Mode: Wireless Router Mode (if available)
  8. Leave other settings at their default values. 
  9. Finalise the setup, power off the router, wait 10 minutes, and turn it back on.
  10. Test your connection. If there are issues, contact our customer service team.

Frequently asked questions

What’s my internet username and password?

Capti does not have a username/password login for our internet connections. Gone are the username and password days of ADSL. This applies to every type of connection. There will be specific router settings that will bypass the need to enter a username/password.

How does the G.Fast connection come into my home?

G.Fast connections use your existing telephone port to deliver high-speed internet, making efficient use of the building's copper wiring.

A Network Termination Unit (NTU) is installed and connected to your wall socket using an RJ12 cable. The NTU converts the G.Fast signal from your telephone line into Ethernet (similar to an NBN connection box). It outputs an Ethernet (RJ45) connection, serving as the bridge between your telephone line and your router.

Can I bring a router from another ISP?

In most cases, yes! Most routers provided by different internet service providers (ISPs) are able to be used with an Capti service.

Some ISP’s lock their routers to their service, but most do not. If you’re wanting to use another service provider’s router and aren’t able to make the changes in the guide or update the firmware, then call our Customer Service team. We may have a few tips and tricks to resetting the router so it can work.

Common Router Login Addresses

Please be aware that the login requirements for every BYO router may vary. If the instructions above do not work, or if you have set a password and cannot recall it, you can try performing a factory reset. To do this, hold down the reset button on your router for approximately 8 seconds, or until the router's lights begin to flash. This will restore the default username and password. If the issue persists, refer to your router's manual for further assistance.
